Vehicle Maintenance Management – For High-Performance During Winter

Winter has its share of problems related to the cold.

In order to help us give you our best vehicle maintenance service and optimize your winter operations, we would like to make the following suggestions:

• Drain the air tanks daily to prevent condensation build-up.
• Add diesel fuel conditioner fluid regularly, especially if you travel from south to north.
• Connect the truck’s engine block heater at least 4 hours before starting. Also, make sure the outlets you use are functional.
• Keep your truck’s DEF fluid tank full.
• Avoid idling; this is bad for modern engines.
• Remove snow from trailer roofs and truck boxes.
• If you have to use air brake antifreeze, make sure it is not pure methyl alcohol (wood alcohol).
• Avoid parking in windy areas as much as possible.
• When starting the vehicle, make sure the switches are in OFF position.
• At the end of your workday, make sure all switches are in OFF position.
• Many vehicles, especially Class 7 ones, are equipped with glow plugs. So, when starting the engine, turn the key ON and wait at least 30 seconds before attempting to start the engine.
• Never use ether to start these vehicles.
• In cold weather, fully depress the clutch pedal when starting the engine.
